Patti Smith (75) – Because The Night
Patti Smith is a ’70 punk rock icon. She was creating this genre when it was not so widely available. Her most popular song is “Because the Night,” which was co-written with Bruce Springsteen. She did four albums until 1979, one in 1988, and then six between 1996 and 2012. She wrote 27 books as well.
Smith has also used her music for anti-war activism. She’s done so on multiple occasions with songs such as “Qana,” “People Have the Power,” and “Peaceable Kingdom.” In 2022, she appeared in the TV movie “Patti Smith, la Poésie du Punk,” which translates as “Patti Smith, the Poetry of Punk.”
